Then-New York Giant football player Clayton White, according to a newspaper report that can no longer be accessed on the Internet, made a comment about United 93 passengers boarding their plane on the tarmac on which his team’s plane landed on September 11, 2001. Or so I thought.
He had reportedly made the comment about two weeks later in response to a flight attendant telling him on a subsequent flight into Newark that United 93 took off from that point on September 11. He was shocked and stated that he remembered seeing people board the plane from the tarmac.[1]
But hold the presses! I reached now-Coach Clayton White of North Carolina State’s football team by telephone on May 25, 2015. He explained to me that “[the writer] didn’t have a picture of what I was talking about.” When his team flew on a plane two weeks later to Kansas City, he related, it was the first time they had flown since September 11 and the topic came up.
“The Giants charter plane had the same stewardess on all away games.” She told him on the Kansas City flight that Flight 93 had been “right beside” their charter plane on 9/11.
White went on to emphasize that he never saw the flight’s passengers.
