Truth of MH 370 Flying By?

Jim Stone writes in his blog why he believes AWACS was used to take over and control the "missing" plane of flight MH 370.
That's Airborne Warning and Control System.  This is technology used by aircraft to "detect aircraft, ships and vehicles at long ranges and perform control and
command of the battle space." The technology can also take over and electronically "hijack" airplanes, including planes for passenger flights.
Stone presents an interesting case for this theory.  He gets the flight number incorrect and makes a questionable comparison to the allegations of planes hitting the World Trade Center towers on 9/11, but explains the AWACS theory well.  He states, among other things, that AWACS can cause a plane to fall off civilian radars but not military radars (which apparently happened here).  The facts of cell phones ringing also support an AWACS hijack and landing, as does the fact of "missing" black boxes.  Give it a read!

Diary of a Disturbed Mind Using an Eight Ball

As a child, there was a phrase I had to say every day…

ONE NATION UNDER GOD

My kindergarten class says there is a God, but my parents don’t.  Why should I recite this pledge?

BECAUSE I SAID SO

The principal says I must say it.  Maybe he is wrong.

YOU’RE A LOSER* IF YOU BELIEVE THAT

I tried to trust God, but my friend died in a car accident.

GOD MUST HAVE HAD A PLAN

Then I do not care for God.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD…

Then why does he let innocent people die?

HAVE FAITH

Faith in what?  A God I cannot see?  A Bible I read and do not believe?

ONE NATION UNDER GOD

My nation sends troops to fight wars that make no sense.

OUR GOVERNMENT WOULD NEVER DO THAT

Where are the weapons of mass destruction?

I CANNOT REVEAL MY SOURCES

What?

SUPPORT THE TROOPS

I support the troops coming home and for all of them to stop supporting wars based on lies.

THE TERRORISTS DID IT

What terrorists are you talking about?

I CANNOT REVEAL MY SOURCES

Who can I trust?

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD...

I give up.  Is there something you can tell me not connected to God or country?

Here is How We Can Support the Troops

What does it mean to support the troops?

I frequently see the statement “Support Our Troops” on bumper stickers and I hear it from people as well.  Like a lot of short, simple statements, its vagueness encourages its likability.

Our troops have bombed and invaded nations that presented no threat to us.  They participate in drone bombings and have killed innocent people.  In all fairness, those who say they support the troops do not likely support these actions.

Many who join the armed forces do so because they cannot get a job nor can they afford college.  They are the ones who most need our support and we can give it to them.

What if more young people could choose to go to college?

Consider a new report from Bloomberg.com reported in The Week magazine that the “net worth of the average Canadian household was $363,202, while the average American household had a net worth of $319,970.”  The net worth statistics used to be the other way around.

How have the Canadians surpassed us in this regard?

We could look to what our federal government spends.  For Fiscal Year 2010, spending on the United States Defense Department took up at least twenty percent of the budget.  The number goes higher when one considers spending on Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, interest on debt incurred in previous wars and other issues.

What do nations like Canada spend on their military?  About 1.4 percent!

On the other hand, the United States’ federal government outspends the Canadian government in percentage of spending on education of the total budget.  It also outspends the Canadians on issues such as health care.

What assists the Canadians in terms of education is that it does not cost to go to “college” there.  Colleges are two-year schools that United States refers to as “community college.”  The costs of going to community college are high and getting higher.  So are the costs of going to college, as many in the military are well aware.

We can foresee a problem ahead of time.  The costs of going to college will rise to the point where most young adults will not be able to afford it.  Jobs will continue to require degrees of most applicants.  The military will remain one employer that does not require formal schooling.

We need to shift some of the military spending to colleges to lower the tuition bills.  Here is how:

We must stop starting “elective” wars where we choose to fight a non-existent threat.  This will lower the payment of interest on war spending.

We must reduce the stationing of soldiers in areas of conflict.  This will lower spending on veterans affairs.

We must encourage diplomacy and find ways to avoid conflict that we clearly cannot afford.

The result will be a generation of citizens who do not feel pressured to join the military.  And those who do join will do so more willingly and with the realization that the avoidance of conflict is a goal worth pursuing.

Overall, our presence overseas will no longer exceed what we can afford.  And the presence at home will be a future of better educated people who might have better ideas as to how to stop unnecessary wars.

Why We Believe Lies

10/12/2011

"Why We Believe Lies"

Would you ever believe what you knew was a lie?
Overwhelmingly, most people would say they would never do such a thing.

But what if…

Your job depended on your belief in a lie?  Let’s say your employer makes a product that could cause consumers to become seriously ill.  Your employer tells you that part of your job involves telling the public the product is safe.  But you know it isn’t safe.

Do you quit?  Not in this economy you wouldn’t.
Do you challenge your employer’s message to the public?  It would be a good way to get demoted or fired.

Or what if…

The truth is just too hard to take.  Let’s say you have an interest in genealogy.  You research your family history and discover that some ancestors held slaves.  Family and friends start asking you what you have found out.

Do you lie or leave out this part of the family tree?  Then you are acting in agreement with a lie and you are encouraging others to believe it.
Do you admit what you have found out?  Maybe you would, but from my experience, this admission is not especially common.

Or how about if…

Something else was more important than believing the truth?  Let’s say you are looking for an edge to get into college.  You didn’t really serve as the president of your schools’ honor society or work on the newspaper, but mentioning these lies would help your chances with little chance of getting caught.

Do you put the lies in, figuring “everybody does it”?  This would be a type of justification and, in this case, hardly likely to be true.
Do you ever admit the truth to anyone?  If not, you perpetuate a lie.

These situations involve individuals and companies and failure to reveal the truth could cause harm to others.  We know or hear of these types of lies and most people would be quick to condemn them.  Why?  Because there would be little backlash for calling out the liars.  Not even the company that makes dangerous products is a match before the proper court or government agency.

So let’s raise the stakes.

What if the truth implicated the very pillars of our society?  Actors such as the media, the government or the armed forces communicate to masses of people who rely upon the information they provide.

Despite complaints by members of the public about these institutions, polls show that most people believe the news they get from them.  Is it because we believe we are receiving the truth or because of the possibility of backlash if we do not?

History tells us that our government has frequently deceived the public to go to war.  The Spanish-American War, the Viet Nam War and the War in Iraq are three examples in which our leaders repeated lies over what started the war and why we were going to fight it.  The mainstream media and the military joined the chorus and sold those lies as well.

Facts were brought to the attention of our leaders and the public (like the lack of weapons of mass destruction, for example) but support for the wars continued, anyway.

I go back to my original question:  Would you ever believe what you knew was a lie?

If you supported wars such as the recent one in Iraq and you knew the reasons for going were false, then you have done just that.

Why did you do it?  Was your job at stake?  Were you afraid of your standing among your peers for coming out against something popular?  Are you connected to those pillars that lie to us?

You know the answer.  If you believe something is more important than the truth, maybe now is the time to explain to yourself what that is.
